From the Vice Provost of Academic Affairs

As Vice Provost of Academic Affairs, my key objectives are to foster faculty engagement and development, and to facilitate the recruitment, advancement and retention of a diverse body of faculty that unite us in our shared purpose and promise.

It is my responsibility to oversee appointments, promotions, stewardship reviews and to ensure these important processes are handled fairly, in a timely manner, and in adherence to policy, our high standards, and PRIDE values. I oversee the Office of Faculty and Academic Affairs, the Office of the Ombuds, and the Campus Council on Faculty Life (CCFL). I also support the Chancellor and the Executive Vice Chancellor & Provost (EVCP) in strategic and operational capacities related to faculty and academics.

As Vice Provost-Academic Affairs, my personal goals are to:

  • Lead according to the values of professionalism, respect, integrity, diversity and excellence
  • Develop and promote policies and programs that support faculty in their professional goals
  • Develop and promote policies and programs that enhance the ability of faculty to meet their responsibilities to the University and their responsibilities to children, elders, partners and others
  • Work collaboratively with the campus leaders and the Academic Senate to respond to faculty concerns and issues
  • Ensure reliable, timely, and efficient processes for core operations work in the Office of Faculty and Academic Affairs
  • Lead and support the outstanding work of staff in the Office of Faculty and Academic Affairs and foster their career and professional development
  • Advocate for and influence the development of impactful policies and programs that address the needs of health sciences faculty at a UC system-wide level

I feel that it is critical that our office remain nimble, continually reassess the needs of our faculty, drive high-impact programs and initiatives that address areas of concern, and engage campus leaders to help shape the strategic direction of the campus as it relates to faculty work and climate.
