  • Mentoring Up Twelve tips for successfully employing a mentee driven approach to mentoring relationships

Effective mentorship is critical for achieving professional success and ensuring promotion within academic health sciences. Despite the established importance of mentorship, however, mentoring relationships can be challenging to develop and sustain. ‘Mentoring up’ is a concept adapted from the business concept of ‘managing up’ that encourages mentees to actively drive their mentoring relationships to ensure desired results.

In this January 11, 2021 interactive workshop, mentees will learn practical strategies for cultivating and maintaining quality mentoring relationships that will better serve their needs.
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Define the concept of a mentee-driven mentoring relationship.
  • Recognize and reflect upon mentee strategies and skills that can be used to build and sustain effective mentoring relationships.
  • Identify the characteristics of and describe the importance of building an effective mentoring network.
